Canals and waterways played a large part in the life of James Brindley. He surveyed many canals and was also involved in the construction of some of them. The timeline on the left hand side shows start and completion dates for the canals that were central to Brindley's work. To view more information about a particular canal, click on the relevant green box.

Brindley also helped construct the Calder and Hebble Navigation, however we don't know when he was involved in this work. He also surveyed many canals which were never started in his lifetime. To view a list of these click here.
